Under the hood of the EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium is a 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged engine, which produces up to 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.

Those who choose the GT and GT Premium trims get even more thrilling power from the 5.0L Coyote V8 under the hood, which delivers an amazing 480 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. This engine is sure to get you where you're going, whether you're letting loose at the track or running out for last-minute grocery items. This engine offers a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

Taking the power up a notch, the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine that resides in the Dark Horse and Dark Horse Premium delivers an eye-catching 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque; these pony cars are made to roar laps around the track. 

The Dark Horse trim comes with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift capability, giving you the feel of a manual transmission without the clutch, allowing you to change gears via paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. However, for drivers who want a manual transmission, the Dark Horse trim offers an exclusive TREMEC six-speed manual so that you can keep your foot on the gas while shifting gears.  

Introducing the Track-Ready 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC

While the Dark Horse trim reflects everything awesome about Mustang capability, Ford has gone a step further for 2026 with the Dark Horse SC trim.

This track-focused Mustang trim quite literally "grew up" on the track, designed and tested alongside the Mustang GTD supercar. Under the hood of this thrilling new trim is a powerful 5.2L "Legend" supercharged V8 that outputs an eye-dropping 795 horsepower and is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This engine is exciting even when idling.

It's clear that the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC is intended to be driven fast. From the hood pins to the optional Michelin Cup2 R Tires, every inch of this car has been refined and tuned perfectly for speed.

The Dark Horse SC trim features an enormous carbon-fiber vent with hood pins, which improves cooling and creates 2.5 times more downforce than the standard hood vent on the other trims. Adding the optional Track Pack package fine-tunes the standard MagneRide Damping system, replaces the wheels with lightweight carbon fiber options, and removes the rear seat for faster track times.  

Where Street Performance Meets Track Dominance

But you don't have to have a Dark Horse SC to enjoy track time with your Mustang, as drivers have been doing since the dawn of the model. In fact, Track Apps come standard with each 2026 Mustang trim, allowing you to track acceleration and G-forces via the display screens.

There are plenty of options for boosting each Mustang trim's power and aesthetic, too. For starters, the Mustang RTR Package adds Brembo brakes and wider 19-by-9.5-inch wheels. More importantly, however, you'll find a class-first electronic drift brake awaiting your next move.

The Dark Horse Handling Package adds a front aero splitter and rear spoiler, and carefully updates the Mustang's overall aerodynamics.
